CHMER or Ching-Hung Machinery & Electric Industrial Co Ltd is Taiwan’s No.1 EDM manufacturer and figures among the top 5 globally. The company, founded in 1975 by Mr Wuu-Shyong Wang, Chairman of the Board, follows the business philosophy of “Integrity, Growth, Customer Satisfaction and Employee Security”. EDM or electrical discharge machining is a technology for machining of hard or otherwise difficult to machine metals with traditional techniques.
The CHMER product range comprises Wire Cut EDMs, Die Sinker EDMs, Drilling EDMs, high speed milling machines and CNC tapping centres used by a large number of industries including aerospace, automobile and energy industries. The in-house R&D department has developed a highly reliable and user friendly CNC controller and state-of-the-art EDM power supplies. Through in-house software department, the company has developed EDM specific software to optimise the cutting performance between the power supply and controller plus provide user specific software for special applications. Its latest model, RV-Series 853L Intelligent Linear Wire Cut EDM has already been honoured with the Taiwan Excellence Gold Award, yet another award in the company’s chest overflowing with awards collected during its four decades plus existence.
“CHMER EDMs use the linear motor drive system with its advantages like high speed machining, high response, low friction of axis movement, high performance and low electrode wear,” says Brad Wang, Marketing Manager. On the shopfloor, besides TQM and TPM, the company follows CPS – the CHMER Production System. It has embraced new technologies like IoT to build intelligent production line where each machine is connected to the central server and the data available to all those connected with the production value chain on mobile devices as well as displayed on monitors at strategic locations.
The company has a global presence with 75 marketing stations in 55 countries including India, where Godrej and Tata groups are key users. Over 50% of production is exported. From Canada in the north to New Zealand in the south, the company has a truly global customer base, and the goal is to become the world’s No.1 EDM manufacturer.
