ARC’s Sixteenth India Forum is all about Digitisation
Published on : Monday 30-11--0001
ARC Advisory Group's sixteenth India Forum for the process and discrete industries, titled Digitising and Securing Industry, Infrastructure, and Cities from July 5-6, 2018, Bangalore, India attracted over 250 delegates. Last year the core theme was digital transformation; this year we’ve moved to the next level of how digitisation can help industries, infrastructure and cities grow in a secure, collaborative environment. That digitisation is an imperative to succeed in a competitive world is a given; but the transition must be well strategised and charted. The transition aspect of digitisation was discussed through extensive networking among delegates, end users, and solution providers.
The backdrop
Today, companies are digitising business processes and exploiting the increasing convergence between operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT), and engineering technology (ET) on the plant floor. Governments around the world are supporting manufacturing growth initiatives. And these emerging business models allow manufacturers to collaborate more effectively. Information-driven digital enterprises leverage new technologies to achieve agility and sustain a competitive edge. All these were discussed at the ARC India forum. This two-day forum was structured to disseminate information and technology effectively and provide end users, solution providers and decision makers an opportunity to network and get an overall view of the market and its requirements.
The session topics covered industry and infrastructure moving towards digitisation; automation trends, cybersecurity; smart technologies and smart cities; and several end user experiences. On both days there were lively and thought provoking question and answer sessions with the speakers.
Forum proceedings
G Ganapathiraman, Vice President and General Manager, ARC Advisory Group, India welcomed the delegates; and for the lighting of the traditional lamp he invited the global sponsors on stage. Later, he called the silver, industry association, and media sponsors on stage for a photo session. This was followed by the keynote presentations, which set the tenor for the forum.
The success of our forum is largely due to the tremendous support we received from our Sponsors:
- Global Sponsors: Bentley Systems, Mitsubishi Electric, Siemens, Wind River
- Silver Sponsors: AVEVA, Emerson, and STEAG
- Global Logo Sponsor: Inmation
- Industry Association Sponsors: AIA and CIO Forum, and
- Media Sponsors: A&D, CED, Chemical Industry Digest, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering World, Electronics Media, IED Communications, Industrial Automation, Industrial Products Finder, IIoT World, Infrastructure Today, OffshoreWorld, Power, Reliability Web.com, The Record, and Uptime.
Summing up
ARC's forum drove home the point that in a connected world automation and keeping abreast of new technologies catalyses industrial growth. The time has come to migrate from the old to the new - digital, collaborative enterprises mark the way ahead. Reactive analysis/maintenance is obsolete – the spotlight is on predictive and preventive analysis.
Across industries there is a deluge of information and data - and those who can extract the right information at the right time will succeed in a competitive environment. Challenges abound, but suppliers who believe in collaborating and resolving end user pain points will thrive; at the other end of the spectrum, proactive and flexible end users who adopt new technologies will surge ahead.
Driving Digital Transformation in Industry and Cities
ARC’s Seventeenth India Forum is scheduled for July 4-5, 2019 at Bangalore, India.
To navigate successfully through today’s global wave of digital transformation and make disruptive technologies work for them, manufacturers, municipalities, utilities, and all other organisations will need to roll out just the right mix of technologies at just the right time. They will need to drive and manage change in processes, people, ecosystems, and technologies while putting cybersecurity at the forefront.
Everything is becoming more connected and intelligent. Streetlights, cars, gas turbines, and thermostats stream data. Buildings, refineries, oil platforms, mines, and wind turbines are optimizing asset and operating performance. Parking meters and distributed power grids deliver value to both consumers and operators. Design software can link to additive machines to print parts directly. And it's only the beginning.
How will disruptive technologies change existing products, plants, and cities? Can cybersecurity threats be overcome? How will machine learning, artificial intelligence, and open source solutions transform operations? How will a digitally-enhanced workforce stem the loss of tribal knowledge? How do connected products create opportunities in aftermarket services? What steps can organisations take to foster innovative thinking?
There are countless ways to conduct your digital transformation journey, multiple technologies and suppliers to evaluate, and endless choices to make along the way. Embedded systems, networks, software platforms, augmented reality, and machine learning may play a role as you begin to improve uptime, optimise operating performance, enhance service and the customer experience, and re-think business models.
Join the ARC’s Seventeenth India Forum to learn more about how digitising factories, cities, and infrastructure will benefit technology end users and suppliers alike. Discover what your peers are doing today and what steps they are taking in their respective journeys.
