Murrelektronik’s advanced components provide precise control and monitoring of industrial processes.
Murrelektronik stands at the forefront of process automation, leveraging advanced technologies to drive industrial efficiency and digital transformation. One of the primary innovations is the integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). By embedding sensors, actuators, and controllers into IoT/IIoT networks, Murrelektronik enables real-time data collection and analysis. This connectivity enhances decision-making and operational efficiency, allowing industries to respond swiftly to changes and optimise processes with up-to-date information.
The confidence in these technologies stems from years of focus on decentralisation. As a system solution specialist, Murrelektronik has developed essential hardware – such as fieldbus modules, switches, power supplies, IO-Link, cables, and connectors – and also boasts a robust software background that supports the creation of digital twins. These digital replicas bridge the physical and digital worlds, demonstrating their commitment to advancing automation technology.
Murrelektronik’s advanced components provide precise control and monitoring of industrial processes, improving data accuracy and adaptability to environmental changes. This technological edge helps industries achieve greater control and operational efficiency. Furthermore, the use of advanced communication protocols like Profinet, EtherCAT, and Ethernet/IP ensures seamless integration and data exchange across different parts of an automation system, addressing interoperability challenges and streamlining operations.
The digital twin technology exemplifies innovation. A digital twin is a virtual model that mirrors the functions and configurations of the actual machine or plant, allowing for virtual management and control. Through virtual reality, users can interact with and manage the system remotely. The digital twin plays a crucial role in condition monitoring and predictive maintenance. Combined with artificial intelligence, it facilitates the early detection of anomalies and proactive corrective measures. Additionally, long-term data analysis helps assess energy efficiency and explore potential savings through process simulations.
Murrelektronik’s focus on modular and scalable solutions enhances process automation by providing systems that can be easily expanded or reconfigured to meet evolving needs. This scalability ensures that automation setups can adapt to operational demands. Edge computing complements this by processing data closer to its source, reducing latency and enabling real-time responses to changes, thereby improving system performance.
Predictive maintenance is another key application of Murrelektronik’s technology. By utilising data from sensors, their systems can predict equipment failures before they occur, helping to reduce unplanned downtime and maintenance costs. Their emphasis on energy efficiency also supports more sustainable operations by monitoring and managing energy consumption, thereby reducing costs and environmental impact.
Decentralised automation system – Zero cabinet
Murrelektronik’s Vario-X system epitomises their commitment to decentralised automation. It achieves 100 percent decentralised automation without control cabinets, addressing increasingly complex production challenges. Vario-X is a modular system that provides solutions tailored to every machine need, allowing for flexible, scalable, and compact configurations. This system eliminates the need for traditional control cabinets, reducing setup times and minimising error sources. Predictive maintenance further adjusts service and downtime to production cycles, simplifying complex processes.
Vario-X: The future of automation
Vario-X represents a flexible and scalable automation platform with maximum openness and performance at all levels and interfaces. The future of automation is envisioned as cabinetless and without compressed air-networked, pluggable, and cost-efficient. The Vario-X system incorporates a digital twin from the start, providing a 1:1 virtual replica of the real plant that includes all functions and parameters. This digital twin is seamlessly integrated with decentralised servo drives, ensuring reliable voltage, signal, and data management directly in the field.
The robust housings with IP67 protection are designed to be snapped side by side into a solid backplane with integrated machine construction profiles. This setup allows the entire station to be easily attached to common profile systems and withstand extreme conditions, such as stepping loads on the housings.
Benefits
The shift to a cabinetless system results in reduced cooling requirements and increased space on the shop floor, which can be utilised for value-added manufacturing equipment like robots.
Danfoss India focuses on next-gen solution in fire safety
Danfoss Fire Safety A/S, a division of the global Danfoss Group, successfully showcased its innovative high-pressure water mist technology at the recently concluded Fire and Security India Expo (FSIE) 2024. The system offers intelligent and reliable fire protection for buildings, industrial facilities, and tunnels, requiring significantly less water and providing rapid fire suppression.
The SEM-SAFE® high-pressure water mist system was the centrepiece of Danfoss Fire Safety exhibit, demonstrating the company's commitment to innovation and sustainability in fire protection.
Mr Ravichandran Purushothaman, President, Danfoss India, highlighted, "Danfoss India is committed to providing sustainable fire safety solutions in alignment with India's evolving safety standards. Our SEM-SAFE® high-pressure water mist system not only optimises water usage but also ensures that critical facilities like data centres remain operational during fire incidents. We stand as a testament to innovation, offering a robust solution that fits both the aesthetic and functional demands of modern infrastructure while maintaining the highest compliance standards. We are excited to showcase our technologies at the FSIE 2024 and engage with industry professionals to further advance the burgeoning need for fire safety in India, with our growing cities and infra developments."
Danfoss SEM-SAFE® high-pressure water mist fire protection system, was recently implemented in the Samruddhi Expressway Tunnel, located in Maharashtra, India. This 8-kilometer, 3-lane tunnel, a vital link between Mumbai and Nagpur, features a cutting-edge fire protection system, courtesy of Danfoss Fire Safety's SEM-SAFE®, a high-pressure water mist system. This technology efficiently suppresses fires and mitigates their impact, complemented by 26 cross-passages for emergency evacuation and 54 ventilation fans per tube for optimal airflow and smoke clearance, ensuring a safe and reliable passage through the Western Ghats mountains in under 10 minutes.
This project made a significant stride in fire safety technology and infrastructure development, by creating a safe environment for people to quickly escape in case of any fire situation and safeguarding the tunnel structure.
The Danfoss SEM-SAFE system also uses upto 80 percent less water than other water-based fire suppression / extinguishing technologies. Furthermore, it is the only high-pressure water mist manufacturer with 68°C rated data centre nozzles, which can reduce the cooling demand in data centres and minimise the energy consumption for cooling. There is also zero risk of oil contamination thanks to ultra-clean pump technology, with no requirement for oil.
Mr Qusai Alasad, ME & India Regional Manager Global Manager-Transportation Infrastructures, Danfoss Fire Safety, stated, "While water has been used for centuries to combat fires, water mist represents a breakthrough in fire fighting. It offers excellent fire suppression properties by capturing soot particles, reducing radiant heat, and quickly lowering temperature to acceptable levels. Our high-pressure water mist system effectively combines the suppression effect of gas and traditional sprinklers, safeguarding both people and equipment without requiring additional installations. Our participation in FSIE reflects Danfoss's commitment to bringing pioneering fire safety solutions to India."
Danfoss Fire Safety's participation at FSIE 2024 underscores their dedication to delivering cutting-edge fire protection solutions that meet the unique needs of the Indian market. The FSIE offered a forum to learn more about the SEM-SAFE® system and explore how it can transform fire safety standards across diverse applications, from modern high-rises to critical infrastructure.
