Sandvik Coromant enhances its offer of Silent Tools™ turning adaptors

Sandvik Coromant, a global leader in cutting tools and tooling systems, presents the full lineup of its next-generation Silent Tools™ turning adaptors. Additional sizes and configurations have been added, including adaptors with Coromant Capto® coupling and HSK-T coupling. Furthermore, this innovative vibration-damping technology is now available for quick and easy customisation with Tailor Made®.

“These upgraded adaptors are designed for safer, faster and more productive internal turning at long overhangs. By adding Tailor Made to the offer, we meet customer demands and specific tool requirements, enabling optimised cutting processes,”says Åke Axner, Global Product Manager at Sandvik Coromant.

For nearly five decades, Sandvik Coromant has been at the forefront of innovation in vibration-damping technology. Its upgraded Silent Tools turning adaptors, now available in Tailor Made, represent the pinnacle of this journey, offering customisable tools with superior vibration control. Sandvik Coromant now adds 75 Coromant Capto adaptors (diameters 32–100 mm and 1.260–3.937 inch) and six HSK-T adaptors (diameters 32–60 mm and 1.260–2.362 inch) to the existing assortment.

The advanced damping mechanism efficiently counters vibration forces, ensuring safer machining at long overhangs and reducing the risk of interruptions and incidents. “In the past, the damper body required manual operation to fine-tune it to the desired frequency range. However, with the introduction of the second generation of Silent Tools, this process has been automated with the damper body being precisely assembled and calibrated to the optimal frequency range by a machine,” Axner explains.

Ensuring significantly more consistent performance across different length-to-diameter ratios, the damping mechanism translates into increased machining repeatability and reliability.

The next-gen technology of Silent Tools turning adaptors addresses key industry challenges, including increasing metal removal rates, improving surface finishes, enhancing process security and reducing production costs. By minimising disruptions during internal turning operations, Silent Tools lowers the cost per component, making businesses more profitable and competitive.

The updated assortment of Silent Tools turning adaptors now consists of 187 tools in total, including cylindrical, Coromant Capto and HSK-T adaptors. These tools are ideal for general internal turning, parting and grooving, and threading in various industry segments, including aerospace, power generation, oil and gas, general engineering and machine tool making.
