IIM Mumbai, in partnership with the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, has launched a week-long Specialised Capacity Building Programme on “Inventory, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management through the Auditing Lens” focused on the Oil & Gas sector. This initiative unites senior government auditors with academic and industry leaders to enhance audit proficiency and sectoral understanding in one of India’s most critical industries.

Mumbai, May 2025: The Indian Institute of Management Mumbai (IIM Mumbai), in collaboration with the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, inaugurated a week-long Specialised Capacity Building Programme on Inventory, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management through the Auditing Lens: Oil & Gas Sector. The initiative brings together senior government auditors and leading academic and industry experts to enhance understanding of logistics performance and strategic auditing in one of India’s most vital sectors — Oil and Gas.
The inaugural session was a proud and momentous occasion at IIM Mumbai, reflecting the shared vision of fostering excellence in public auditing and governance.
The programme has been conceptualised under the visionary leadership of Shri K Sanjay Murthy, Comptroller and Auditor General of India, with the objective of aligning auditing practices to emerging challenges in logistics, supply chain efficiency, and international trade.
Prof. Manoj Kumar Tiwari, Director of IIM Mumbai, has provided strategic academic direction to ensure the programme reflects national priorities and contemporary supply chain practices. Prof. Vivekanand B. Khanapuri, Dean SRIC, was instrumental in crafting a rigorous and relevant academic framework.
The inaugural day saw participation from esteemed dignitaries and expert faculty. Special recognition was given to Shri Vijay Kothari, IA&AS, Principal Director of Audit (Shipping), whose guidance and leadership played a vital role in curating the programme with precision and sectoral relevance.
Academic sessions on Day 1 laid a strong foundation. Prof. Tiwari led an in-depth exploration of the oil and gas value chain, focusing on logistics complexities and key audit touchpoints. This was followed by a powerful address from Mr Deepak Shetty, I.R.S. (Retd.), Former Director General of Shipping, who provided global insights into maritime trade regulations, port logistics, and audit considerations in international shipping. Ms. Ruma Kishor, a renowned supply chain expert, concluded the day with a session on risk management and operational vulnerabilities in oil and gas supply chains.
The programme has drawn over 30 senior auditors from across the country and promises a rich learning experience focused on strengthening institutional capabilities in auditing logistics and supply chain systems within the oil and gas sector.
