Hanover, Germany, December 1, 2025 – As automation takes deeper root in specialty crop farming, XAG is advancing the movement with the global launch of the R Series Agricultural Rover. This is a fully electric ground robot specifically engineered for demanding environments like orchards, vineyards, and greenhouses where traditional, large equipment struggles to operate. Combining intelligent navigation with precision spraying, the XAG R Series helps growers significantly reduce labor and operational costs while boosting overall productivity through accessible, high-efficiency automation.

The Urgent Need for Specialty Crop Automation

Specialty crops such as fruits, vegetables, and greenhouse produce are vital to agricultural growth, but their high value requires intensive management. The rising demand for fresh, nutritious food is pushing growers toward smart technologies to improve profitability. According to the USDA, labor accounts for about 38% of production costs in specialty crop farms. This heavy reliance on manual labor is driving the rapid adoption of automation, making orchards and greenhouses two of the fastest-growing and most technology-driven segments in agriculture.

Models and Precision Spraying Technology

Drawing on proven expertise in agricultural automation, the R Series Agricultural Rover offers two specialized models:

Model

Target Environment

Tank Capacity

Drive/Sprayers

Key Feature

XAG R100

Densely planted crops (Greenhouses)

120 liters

4-wheel drive, 2 JetSprayers

Compact frame, 30-minute full operation

R200 Agricultural Rover

Orchards and Vineyards (wider spacing)

240 liters

6-wheel drive, 4 JetSprayers

Greater capacity and reach, 15-minute full operation

Both models utilize XAG's centrifugal JetSprayer technology, which is critical for precision. It produces fine 60–200-micron droplets for uniform coverage while significantly reducing chemical use and drift. With a horizontal spray reach of up to seven meters per side, the rover operates efficiently between crop rows, minimizing passes and conserving time, energy, and resources.

Engineering for Tough Terrain and Navigation

Built on an all-aluminum chassis with a suspended portal axle, the R Series Agricultural Rover maintains steady traction and balance, even on uneven terrain common in orchards and vineyards. Its compact body measures just 80 centimeters in width, enabling smooth, damage-free intelligent navigation between dense rows while actively reducing soil compaction and protecting delicate plants. The rovers are designed for robust stability, with a 20% maximum gradeability (The R100 net weight is 80 kg; the R200 is 130 kg, both with RevoSpray installed).

The XAG R100 is particularly well-suited for greenhouse applications where space constraints and delicate plant structures demand precision maneuverability and gentle operation.

Operation is managed through the SRC 5 Smart Remote Controller, which features touchscreen navigation and dual-joystick precision. This intelligent interface allows operators to stay safely outside the application zone, ensuring full control and immediate real-time FPV monitoring of field activities.
