Hybrid Connectors for Industrial Automation
Published on : Monday 30-11--0001
Applications in industrial automation are becoming more complex in the age of industry 4.0.
Single connectors for power, control and communication are more and more being replaced by hybrid solutions with more compact dimensions and improved performance. Stäubli's modular CombiTac system with its wide range of connector modules enables the configuration of individual interfaces. All necessary power, signal and data connections can be combined in a single connector using the modular system. Even hydraulic and fluid couplings can be integrated.
Such interfaces are very user-friendly and all the necessary connections can be made in a single operation. Misconnections are almost impossible. CombiTac is designed for up to 100,000 mating cycles, which ensures process reliability, longevity and high maintenance intervals in automated applications.
Various contact modules are available for signal transmission. In high-density contact carriers up to 320 signal contacts can be accommodated in one connector. Special Last-Mate-First-Break contacts monitor and control the connection status and ensure increased safety. Information on the correct initialization of the connector can thus be transmitted directly to a control unit and for example be integrated into a safety circuit.
The new 10 Gbit module for Industrial Ethernet applications meets the requirements of CAT6A and is used, for example, for high-speed data transmission from machines for production control, machine-to-machine communication (M2M) or real-time data exchange for remote maintenance or monitoring. The connection to the environment is made via an M12 screw connection with commercially available patch cables, so that the cable can be quickly and easily replaced if damaged. The module is extremely resistant to shock and vibration, making it the ideal solution for use in harsh environments, for mobile machines and robots, and for applications subject to vibration.
The modular CombiTac connector system allows for the individual combination of power and control contacts, thermocouples, coaxial contacts, fiber optic, pneumatic, hydraulic and Ethernet contacts in a compact frame or housing. The versatile connectors are used in industrial automation and robotics, mechanical engineering, test applications, automated production lines, railway and transportation as well as in the automotive and medical industries. The patented MULTILAM contact technology guarantees minimal voltage drop and minimal contact resistance as well as very high resistance to vibration. This ensures a secure connection even with up to 100,000 mating cycles.
