Delegates at the PPPA Meet 2020 were all praise for the organisers and had some suggestions to make future editions even more inclusive.
After the successful conclusion of the inaugural Power, Petroleum and Process Automation Meet 2020 in Mumbai, the organisers received a lot of applause and words of encouragement, and some constructive suggestions for future meets. A few of these are reproduced below.
The PPPA2020 Meet has taken a unique initiative to bring together automation users, manufacturers, EPC companies, consultants and academicians together under a common
platform so that new innovations and ideas could be shared and the industry can progress ahead in the field of automation seeking way to maximise output in a cost effective manner. -Jagdish Prajapati, Managing Director, Panam Engineering Ltd
Power and Petroleum industries are among the core industrial sectors where plant and process automation is most desired. PPPA as a part of International Society of Automation (ISA) with vast experience of several years in various aspects of automation can play a pivotal role. It is the right platform for bringing together the experts from the automation industry and the end users from process industry. PPPA should be able to bring about a synergy between these two sectors and expedite the growth of process and plant automation in the industry. -Dr R C Naik, Chairman & Technical Director, Uniphos Envirotronic Pvt Ltd
We have no doubt this in PPPA Meet 2020 organised by ISA – Maharashtra was excellent. We discussed several technical topics that help us to meet various customer requirements, and also explain to them our own technology and ideas. We expect more stalls during the 2021 PPPA Meet. Apart from this, everything was found excellent, very good arrangements. -Biswa Mukherjee, Manager – Sales & Marketing, Doosan HF Controls Corporation, USA
Industrial automation technology soon is destined for next revolution (the current being 4.0) and that is AI/ML. We should prepare ourselves well in advance so as to cope up with the future else we shall be obsolete. A lot needs to be done as the world is going smart at all levels and sectors. The PPPA2020 Meet is a fabulous platform to understand new trends and discuss the future. A culmination of experts at one platform helps budding technological enthusiasts to explore and innovate. As for my expectations from the next PPPA meet in 2021, we need more time for speakers for sure. Also 'Town Hall' sessions should be more to interact with speakers in sync after the end of session. Display screens for presentation need to be looked at ergonomically for clear visibility.

I see lot of opportunity in industrial automation technology at India to go to next level under ‘Make in India’ theme. The PPPA2020 Meet is one of the first ISA events in the Western Region in Mumbai. For me and my team at nVent SCHROFF this was unique exposure to participate along with leading industries as exhibitor as well as to discuss the latest trends in technology with respect to critical applications in industrial sector. Such event(s) provide us the opportunity to share and learn from each other and contribute to the Indian industry. For 2021, I would suggest to add few more topics, e.g., some industry speaker from ‘global marketing intelligence company’. All of us from the industry are keen to know ‘what is going on at the global platform in industrial sector and what are the opportunities locally in India and from India to world’.
-Sandesh Saklani, Vice President Sales – India/MEA-Turkey & MD India, nVent SCHROFF
I believe industrial automation is at the cusp of a major revolution which will change our lives and how our future generations will live on this planet we call our home, and extend sooner than we can imagine to beyond our solar system. The focus of the PPPA meet was to share thoughts and ideas on the change we would like to see or the market forces that are driving us to get smarter in future. This is a small yet a very crucial step in simplifying our future automation needs in the energy industry. Looking forward to yet another exciting and thought provoking session in 2021. Besides, it is also a great event to network and meet friends, seniors and future leaders of the automation industry from around the globe.
-L J Swaminathan, Regional Director – South East Asia, India & Middle East, Meggitt Energy & Equipment
We believe that the future is fire protection systems with implemented video analytics and artificial intelligence. Usage of such system will minimise the impact of human factor in case of critical situations. The PPPA Meet 2020 is a good opportunity for specialists of industrial automation filed to meet and discuss new trends, share opinions, have a fresh view at the market with eyes of specialists of different branches. It all makes it possible to stay up-to-date and be aware of the latest tendencies. For 2021, it would be nice to see more new topics, participants, burning issues and discussions of technological innovations. From our side we’d like to find partners in India to move together to the bright information future, or just to establish an progress a long-term and mutually profitable relations.

Industrial automation has great contribution in improving safety, efficiency, productivity and made the life of operator and maintainer easy. Now with help of advances in technology in AI and MI, online decision making for production, predictive maintenance can be taken which can further help many industry for planning outages and production activities. PPPA Meet 2020 brings researchers, manufacturers, system integrators, agencies making standards or experts in various standards used in process control industry at a single platform and provides current and future trends of technology. All experts available at one platform makes it easy, reduces time for finding right solution or experts in required field. The 2021 edition may consider cybersecurity implementation case studies at developer/manufacturers, software designers’ maintenance. It can also give guidelines for cybersecurity related requirements to be added in indent specifications. Most of the OT networks are isolated from internet but now all software patches and antivirus updates are online so there could be a discussion on this topic.

Industrial automation is revolutionising the way manufacturing companies operate and the world does business. Industrial automation is touching every aspect of business right from material procurement, resources planning to manufacturing and distribution. PPPA is providing a perfect platform to bring automation experts and power and petroleum sectors together. This is helping to bridge the gap between the industry expectations and automation offerings. It is also greatly contributing by helping companies to bring new ideas and products and evaluate their feasibility. The participation of industry leading delegates helps the exhibitors and SMEs to interact with them which otherwise is not possible easily. Adept met few customers who were otherwise difficult to meet due to their busy schedule and few enquiries were also received by us in the recent PPPA meet 2020. For the next edition, there should be a greater industry participation, more publicity which will help in increasing footfall. There should also be more interactive sessions.
