Dassault Systèmes has introduced a subscription model for its cloud offerings in India. Subscribers will get instant access to the unique collaborative applications embedded within the 3DEXPERIENCE platform such as 3D design, engineering, modelling, simulation, data management and process management on the cloud; Social communication, community building and ideation applications for collaborative innovation; 3D visualisation, analytics and dashboarding for knowledge sharing and data-driven decision-making for communities.
The ‘Cloud in the Age of Experience’, offered through the company’s Business Transformation channel as well as a network of resellers, will cater to aerospace and defence, automotive OEMs and suppliers, industrial engineering and retail sectors. One of the fastest growing cloud companies globally, The PwC Global 100 Software Leaders report has ranked Dassault Systèmes as the third fastest growing cloud company in the world.
“Dassault Systèmes has placed the cloud at the heart of our business experience strategy, which is the foundation of next-generation applications and business processes. Cloud is the optimal way to leverage the power of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and the 3DEXPERIENCE Marketplace, said Sylvain Laurent, Executive Vice President, Dassault Systèmes, making the announcement at a select gathering of customers and resellers at New Delhi. “Global customers use cloud to shift towards digital hyper connectivity of people, organisations and objects via the internet, mobile and IoT. In India, we see a lot of potential in cloud adoption in the Electric Vehicle (EV) and components segment supporting the EV roadmap.”
Stating that cloud is not just IT infrastructure, Sylvain Laurent quoted the examples US-based Joby Aviation’s eVTOL (electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing) air taxi, which is now ready for a full test later this year; and CadMakers, an integrated construction and manufacturing technology company that completed work on an 18-storey, hybrid mass-timber building, as successful examples of the collaborative technology the cloud enables with benefits of quick simulation, cost reduction as well as much better planning and execution. He also mentioned that Dassault Systèmes has been ranked #1 in the 2018 World’s Most Sustainable Corporations, something the company has been enabling with virtualisation, reducing waste, and bringing efficiencies.
“The Dassault Systèmes cloud offering is unique in many ways. It is the largest cloud solution portfolio with 250 roles for every stage of the value stream, from upstream thinking to customer ownership including design and engineering, manufacturing, sales and marketing and after sales. Secondly, the 3DEXPERIENCE platform provides a single point of access and common interface for all applications and enables all business units to engage in collaborative innovation,” said Prasanta Kr Das, Vice President, Dassault Systèmes India. He also added, “The importance of the cloud in business transformation continues to be top company priority with double-digit adoption rates. Scalability, competitiveness, profitability, innovation, reactivity and agility, sustainability and security continues to be the key parameters for increased cloud adoption and we intend to replicate the global success in India.” India is home to one of the 8 global data centres of the company and the 24x7 operated cloud has 128-bit encryption, with all communication done over secure SSL/TLS channel.
Success Stories in India
Among the successful partnerships Dassault Systèmes has built in India is the case of Bengaluru based General Aeronautics (GA), which is engaged in developing next generation design methods for Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV) systems. Dassault Systèmes' cloud based technology has been harnessed by GA to design and integrate advanced UAV systems for security and societal applications ranging from Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) to precision agriculture and medical applications.
Tech Mahindra, the IT Services and Telecom Solutions company of the Mahindra Group, leverages the DS 3DEXPERIENCE cloud for enabling connected engineering for a leading truck manufacturer in the US. “TechM engineers operating from our Pune Development Centre are collaborating for product over the 3DEXPERIENCE on cloud with the other team based at the US truck manufacturer’s plant in California,” said Pushpinder Singh, Sr Manager, Integrated Engineering Services, Tech Mahindra. “The benefits are in terms of real time collaboration with global customers, easy deployment and user adoption, and flexibility in investment,” Singh added. According to him, for Tech Mahindra, the journey is towards a ‘Connected World Connected Experiences’ by leveraging digital experience creation on the cloud.
Kolhapur based Engineering Technologies is the first automotive supplier to have deployed the 3DEXPERIENCE platform on cloud for effective Project Management with ability to track each activity with traceability and deliverables alongside having a common repository for all project documents. Neelesh Bavadekar, Vice President, Engineering Technologies said, “Deploying cloud based 3DEXPERIENCE platform was important as it did not add up to IT overheads, enhanced enterprise collaboration and improved program management. We have reduced product development time by 10%, improved identification time of project bottle necks by 30% ensuring better quality compliance.”
Odisha based Centurion University partnered with Dassault Systèmes on cloud to provide students with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform thereby ensuring that the students have the same resources and exposure available to them as present in leading global enterprises and manufacturers. Prof D N Rao, Vice President, Centurion University said, “Working with this platform represents a new paradigm in teaching because it allows multi-disciplinary interaction. Mechanical, electronics, systems engineering, materials, CNC, welding and design students work together on very complex and detailed virtual 3D models, including complete vehicles.” He also added, “At Centurion University, there are further action plans to deploy this exciting technology further to study life sciences, textiles, apparel, and mining. Being cloud-hosted implies that there are no limits.”
Focus on Education Institutes
Dassault Systèmes presently has over 8,000 customers in India. The company also has an outreach to over 1,500 academic institutions, including IITs, and has over 2,50,000 students using its software made available at affordable rates – the software in this case is scaled down and meant for commercial work, but is otherwise fully functional. “We want to build a community of 1 million users in next three years in which students will form a significant portion,” said Samson Khaou, Managing Director, Dassault Systèmes India, talking to the members of the media on the sidelines of the launch function.
The budding engineering community of students is an important focus area for Dassault Systèmes in India for the cloud initiative, and one of the three targeted layers of users. “Education is part of our mission in India and we need to support the students with industry ready content that they can relate to. This is the first layer. The second is the large number of start-ups that are doing differentiated and innovative work – whether it is electric scooters, drones or bio-medical devices – these start-ups that are incubated or are part of the Fab Lab form the second layer of the cloud community. Finally, the third layer is our traditional business which comprises both SMEs and some large corporations that are looking for innovation with the cloud,” said Samson Khaou.
According to Khaou, last year, despite certain adversities, the company was able to achieve over 10 per cent growth year-on-year, which was a turnaround, in a sense. “This year also we are going to do the same,” he asserted.
At present more than 70 per cent of the company’s business comes from automotive, industrial and aerospace segments and the rest comes from retail – consumer goods including apparel; mining, which is a potential growth area; and biotech – including bio medical and pharma. “This year we expect growth to come from manufacturing, defence, 3D printing, infrastructure and construction verticals,” Khaou concluded.
