SmartRay delivers increased efficiency in automotive cradle production

High-quality 3D inline system inspects metal active gas (MAG) welds on suspension cradles in top marque vehicles.
SmartRay is working with leading German car manufacturers to increase efficiency and safety through its JOSY inline inspection system. Suspension cradles are critical parts of a car, connecting the engine, axles and steering. They require very close inspection of every individual weld to ensure the cradle meets the very highest levels of safety and quality. The JOSY inline inspection system, with cutting-edge 3D metrology sensor for non-contact 3D visual inspection of joining technologies, provides accurate, repeatable visual measurements across multiple inspection stations. Following successful initial tests where JOSY performed faster than the current system, production was scaled up within the customers' manufacturing plant, leading to the implementation of 11 JOSY systems in the plant.

Final evaluation showed that JOSY has made an immediate and effective impact in the weld inspection process, allowing operators to optimise the process more efficiently, identifying maintenance issues and, in turn, resulting in reduced manual rework requirements.
