Case Study – Captive LoRa Wireless Solution for Rubber Tyre Gantry
Published on : Wednesday 03-06-2020
Sheetal Wireless provided a reliable and license free (865 MHz) LoRa captive wireless solution for the data transfer.
Sheetal Wireless recently provided captive LoRa wireless solution for the world’s leading Rubber Tyre Gantry (RTG) crane manufacturing company.
The Application
Auto Gantry Steering System (AGSS) is a technology used to control the steering of the RTG, based on the GPS co-ordinates and correct the steering direction. Being this process involves control of steering, it calls for no data loss over the air.
The Problem
One of the leading Rubber Tyre Gantry (RTG) crane manufacturing companies was facing data delivery issue while using Auto Gantry Steering System (AGSS).
The company reported that they are facing interference issues during data transfer of AGSS correction data on the RTG supplied at the busiest container handling terminal located in the western part of India.
The Solution
Sheetal Wireless provided them reliable and license free (865 MHz) LoRa captive wireless solution for the data transfer of AGSS in 2 sq.km area. With captive LoRa unit’s configurable frequency channel, now total 18 cranes are running successfully in the port. This relieves the work pressure from operators, and enables them focus on the obstacles or emergency situation instead of concentrating on the steering of the crane. The company used customised LoRa with following specifications:
1. 865 MHz band and supports NLoS applications.
2. 1 Watt RF power.
3. No Lora gateway requirement, thus making it independent of any service provider.
4. Point to point and point to multi point network.
5. Available with On Board I/O and Serial Interface like RS 485 Daisy Chain and RS 232.
6. Acts as a Modbus Master.
7. Low power consumption.
8. Data speeds available up to 115 kbps.
9. Low latency.
10. IP 65 enclosure.
11. Operating temperature: -40°C ~ 85°C.
