Has the present Corona Virus strain caught the world unaware and unprepared ?

World was not at all prepared was such a disaster. Awareness was also a challenge as every company was in mid of their financial year closing and nobody expected such a huge lock down which most of the countries never experienced. Countries have gone through many attributes that can occur simultaneously and includes declines in component measures of economic activity (GDP) such as consumption, investment, government spending, and net export activity but this lock down has effects all classes and masses of our society which has not given a chance to prepare .
Media Agencies has covered the news in the initial stage but most of the govt bodies has started exploring post the explosion in China. Therefore, we can say nobody was prepared.

What are the implications for business in the near, medium and long term ?

As per KPMG survey, 94 percent of the Fortune 1000 are already seeing COVID-19 disruptions. While no country has managed the spread and effects of the pandemic perfectly there are valuable lessons from those who have been dealing with the crisis for longer.

Business houses who provides services to Government & Enterprise segment are in deep trouble and the entire plans for their financial year gone for a toss. As Govt and enterprise priorities are changed at the current stage and for the next 2 quarters, the investment will be on hold from these two segments resulting a black out in the service industry which will take a long term to come up and streamline .

How can governments be better prepared to handle such pandemics in future ?

Technology will be the saviour for any such pandemics in future. Let me explain with the help of an example “Post this crisis, govt has started installing thermal cameras and started exploring proactive policing platforms for a predictive analysis of such situations.

These innovative platforms will be the next war force to help the govt .

High accuracy thermal scanners are available but are not used possible due to high costs. Would they be more effective ?

Thermal Scanners are the real weapons today to fight against corona, as we do not have a medicine until now. Prevention is the only cure at this stage. Viral and bacterial infections such as the Corona virus that spread through human contact and airborne transmission pose a serious health problem, including the possibility of pandemics, as shown by recent flu outbreak.
Thermal cameras can help to detect elevated body temperatures, which may indicate the presence of a fever, a symptom of the Corona virus. It helps to detect people with a potential fever and may contain or limit the spread of the Corona virus through identification of infected individuals showing fever symptoms. In this crisis time, it is a vital tool in the detection of elevated body temperatures and fevers in high-risk groups such as travellers, students, miners, and factory and office workers.

Now that businesses are getting used to the Work From Home culture, will this signal a paradigm shift ?

As per a research from Forbes, the coronavirus crisis reshapes the American workforce; a new study from the National Bureau of Economic Research reveals that 37% of jobs in the United States can be done at home.
Its depends on the role of the employee For example ;its proven that all the online support services can work from home and organisations can create a tailor made ecosystems for them .

Some analysts have suggested this crisis will boost automation and make a case for Lights Out manufacturing. Your comments ?

What are the lessons from this crisis ?

The Governance model need to be more proactive and techno savvy. Corona has disrupted the government working in a in a big way.
On other side, Covid-19 made people rely on the government to organise their collective defence against the pandemic, and they rely on the government to save a sinking economy. The effectiveness of governments is now measured by their capacity to change people’s everyday behaviour.

#April 2020 Covid Special

To say the world is passing through trying times is to state the obvious. Also evident is the fact that for too long the world has been ignoring the warning signs of environmental degradation fuelled by human excesses and greed. But this is no time for ifs and buts, nor recrimination. Instead, the crisis should be used as an opportunity to make the required course correction to make the world a safer place for all living beings, and the ecological balance, restored. Industrial Automation invited a cross section of industry leaders to offer their views and possible course of action as a way forward from this situation, even as governments across the world and the people are trying to make sense from the still evolving scenario.
