Electronic Health Record (EHR) is greatly adopted and incorporated in the daily operation in the hospitals and clinics to formulate the digitalization technology. The technology is based on artificial intelligence automated technology to gather and store patient data, and document processes across the entire supply chain for the companies in the healthcare sector.
Considering the development of the EHR is focused to create more instinctive interfaces and automate routine processes to enhance the user’s time and minimize the cumbersome process to store key small information about the patients. EHR witnesses an instrumental role in digitalize applications across the sector and further influences the users to incorporate new automated technologies to efficiently carry out the daily task and operations.
It is already seen that the users mainly spent too much of their time across the order entry, sorting, and medical documentation. In addition, the development of automated technologies such as voice recognition and dictation based on natural language processing (NLP) tools are primarily enhancing the medical documentation process. Such developments are further expected to rectify the user’s time spending.
According to the hospitals and clinics, operators stated that the use of video recording a clinical encounter integrated with AI and machine learning to enable access for future information retrieval. Moreover, the integration of virtual assistants such as Alexa and Siri, near to the bedside for the patients to make order entry. This further enhances the routine process requests from the users or administrator for medication refills and result in notifications. In addition, it also prioritizes the task for the administrators to meet the clinician’s attention and execute the task easily along with a more efficient way possible.
According to the WHO, there is wide growth in the adoption rate of the EHRs i.e. 46% in the global market over the last five years. It is estimated that the average cost for the EHRs is around USD 500 to USD 1,200 per provider per month, also depend on the plan of the users. Moreover, the lack of funding, capacity, infrastructure, and legal frameworks are creating barriers for the demand of the EHRs in the developing market. EPIC, Cerner, CareCloud, Athenahealth, GE Centricity, eClinicalWorks, and NextGen are the main providers of electronic health records (EHRs) in the global market.
The rise in demand for technologies focused to store information related to clinical notetaking, prescriptions, and lab tests among others from the clinical side. Also, the growth in demand to enhance existing clinical workflow, reduce patient wait time, and boost the quality of care is creating the demand for the adoption of EHR systems across the supply chain to efficiently execution of the work in the healthcare sector.
