Kevin Tsai, Country Head, Moxa India, responded to a few questions from Industrial Automation for this eInterview.
Digital Transformation is the buzzword in industry today. What are the MOXA solutions in this area?
The MOXA solutions we provide are control, networking and computing. We help customers to successfully map the data from the field to the cloud in order to complete the big data analytics.
Does the company offer all standard products or is there some customisation, especially in view of legacy equipment?
Currently 95% of MOXA’s product portfolio are all standard products. But we do consider customisation based on specific needs of our customers.
Has the Ethernet Vs Fieldbus debate finally settled into a healthy co-existence?
Yes they have settled it.
MOXA IIoT gateways are now integrated with MS Azure IoT Edge. What are the advantages this brings, and how is it faring in the Indian market?
From the design aspect our focus is the security feature.
While the Moxa's IIoT gateway solution comes with capabilities to facilitate easy transfer of data from field devices to the cloud, we also ensure that the customers’ data through our gateway to cloud is transferred safely, thus making it a proven reliable solution for Industrial applications.
Is the multiplicity of standards and protocols a problem? Are MOXA products compatible with other systems and devices?
It is not a problem because you can use a common software interface to the convert data as required.
Yes MOXA products are definitely compatible which is why we have been selling our products for over 30 years. MOXA firmware is No.1 in APAC market because of its capability to link with other devices and systems to drive seamless interoperability.
Industrial safety and security are important areas. What is the IP Surveillance portfolio of products?
We do not offer cameras at this moment. But we do help customers who provide camera devices to deliver reliable, high-quality video performance and security standards needed for to do the analysis.
What are the main industry verticals served by MOXA in India?
We are currently focused on the Railway industry in India and in the long term Factory Automation will also be an interest area.
You are bringing a rich and varied experience to India. How do you view the potential of the Indian market in the near future?
India is a big country with great potential and all technology players just like MOXA want to widen their footprint here due to the expanding application areas in industrial communications. With my varied experience in the China market for over 10 years, I have seen the business grow by 30% YoY and I believe India will also go through this path in the near future.
Kevin Tsai is Country Head of MOXA India since 2018. Prior to that he was Country Head of MOXA Middle East & ASEAN during 2012-2017 and BDM Head of MOXA System, 2010-2012. Before joining MOXA Kevin was Regional Head of Lanner Electronic Asia Pacifi (2008-10) and had a long stint with IBM Semiconductor division Asia Pacific (2000-2008).
