Expanding Local Footprint: Rs 2,000 Crore Investment Milestone Marks 25 Years of German Engineering in India

INDORE — March 2026Hettich India, the global leader in furniture fittings, has officially inaugurated a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. This expansion serves as a major milestone in Hettich’s 25-year journey in India, reinforcing the company’s vision to transform the country into a primary global hub for high-precision furniture hardware.

The new 25,700 sq.m plant is situated within Hettich’s larger 103,039 sq.m Indore campus. It represents a significant portion of the company's cumulative Rs 2,000 crore investment in the Indian market, focusing on automated, world-class production aligned with German quality standards.

Precision Engineering: The Undermount Drawer Runner Hub

The primary focus of this new facility is the production of technologically advanced undermount drawer runners (Quadro systems). These concealed sliding systems are critical components in premium modular kitchens and high-end furniture, offering:

  • Seamless Aesthetics: Installed beneath drawers to maintain a clean, handle-free look.

  • Soft-Close Performance: Precision-engineered for silent and smooth movement.

  • High Load Capacity: Built for long-term durability in heavy-use residential and commercial environments.

With this new "Quadro" plant, Hettich will add an annual capacity of 5 million units of undermount runners to its existing production of 60 million hinges per year in Indore.

Sustainability and Local Economic Growth

Hettich has designed the Indore facility to be a model of sustainable industrial operation and social responsibility.

  • Eco-Friendly Operations: The plant integrates solar power installations, rainwater harvesting, and a zero liquid discharge system to minimize environmental impact.

  • Job Creation: The expansion will create 300 new skilled jobs, bringing the total workforce at the hinge and runner plants to approximately 1,000 employees.

  • Skill Development: Hettich is collaborating with local Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and technical colleges to upskill the local workforce in advanced automated manufacturing and German roll-forming technology.

India as a Global Export Powerhouse

India has now emerged as Hettich’s second-largest market globally. The Indore facility is no longer just serving domestic needs but has become a critical node in the global supply chain.

“As we complete 25 years in India, this plant reinforces our ‘Built to Lead’ commitment. The growing demand for undermount runners validates our strategic direction. Our focus on local manufacturing enables a resilient supply chain and faster market responsiveness for the world.” — Mr. Andre Eckholt, Managing Director, Hettich India.

The "Made in India" products from this facility are currently exported to key markets across the SAARC region, the Middle East, Europe, and China, proving that Indian manufacturing can meet the most stringent international quality benchmarks.

FAQ.

What makes "undermount" runners different from regular drawer slides?

Standard runners are often visible on the sides of a drawer. Undermount runners are "concealed" beneath the drawer box. This provides a much cleaner look for modern, minimalist furniture design and typically allows for better weight distribution and smoother "soft-close" functionality.

Why did Hettich choose Indore for this expansion?

Indore has become a significant industrial hub due to its favorable logistics, access to technical talent, and supportive state policies. For Hettich, centralizing operations in Indore allows for an integrated ecosystem where hinges, sliding profiles, and runners can be manufactured in proximity.

How does German automation impact the final product?

By using German-engineered machinery and advanced roll-forming technology, Hettich ensures that every unit produced in India is identical in quality to those produced in Germany. Automation removes human error in precision-critical areas like load-bearing alignment and silent-close mechanisms.
