Mitsubishi Electric India has strengthened its ‘Make in India’ commitment with a ₹2,100 crore investment, inaugurating a state-of-the-art air conditioner and compressor manufacturing facility in Chennai. The new plant boosts localized HVAC production, employment generation, and energy-efficient manufacturing in India.

CHENNAI, INDIA | February 06, 2026 – Mitsubishi Electric India, a global leader in electrical and electronic equipment, has reached a major milestone in its 15-year journey in the country. The company officially inaugurated its new air conditioner and compressor manufacturing facility in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, today.
The facility was virtually inaugurated by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M K Stalin, through a virtual plaque unveiling, in the presence of the Hon'ble Consul General of Japan, Mr. Muneo Takahashi. Developed with an investment of approximately ₹2,100 crore, the plant underscores a long-term commitment to strengthening India’s localized HVAC ecosystem.
Scaling Production for a Self-Reliant India
This marks the company’s second major manufacturing investment in India within two years, following the 2023 launch of its Factory Automation Systems plant in Pune.
Massive Capacity and Employment Generation
Spread over 210,000 sq.m at Origins by Mahindra, the facility boasts an annual production capacity of:
300,000 Indoor and outdoor room air conditioner units.
650,000 High-efficiency compressor units.
In addition to production, the facility is set to create over 2,100 direct and indirect employment opportunities, significantly boosting the regional supplier ecosystem and local skill development.
Strengthening the 'Make in India' Initiative
Aligned with national goals, the plant enables higher localization of components that have traditionally relied on imports. By manufacturing air conditioners and compressors domestically, Mitsubishi Electric India aims to reduce import dependence and support a self-reliant manufacturing landscape.
