Stamp and Special Cover mark the world record of continuous operation of KGS-1

Release of ‘My Stamp’ and ‘Special Cover’ to mark World Record of Continuous Operation of KGS-1.
Mumbai – Commemorating the world record of 962 days of continuous operation, set by Kaiga Generating Station (KGS) Unit-1, Department of Posts, Govt of India, released ‘My Stamp’ and ‘Special Cover’ on KGS-1 in a function held on November 28, 2019 at the premises of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited in Mumbai.
On this occasion, ‘My Stamp’ and the ‘Special Cover’ were released by Shri H C Agrawal, Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra Circle in a function, presided by Shri K N Vyas, Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) and Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), as Chief Guest and in presence of Shri S K Sharma, CMD, NPCIL.
This event was witnessed by eminent personalities including former Chairman, AEC and former Secretary, DAE, Dr Anil Kakodkar, member of AEC, Dr R B Grover and former CMDs of NPCIL including Shri S K Chatterjee, Dr S K Jain, along with Shri S A Bhardwaj, Ex Chairman, AERB, Directors on the board of NPCIL and senior officials of NPCIL, DAE, and Department of Posts.
KGS -1 had set this world record surpassing the earlier record of 940 days’ continuous operation held by Heysham-2 Unit-8 of the United Kingdom. This landmark has demonstrated that nation’s capability in nuclear power generation technology of PHWR is fully matured. It also demonstrated the excellence in design, construction, safety, quality, operation and maintenance practices of NPCIL.
Indian nuclear power plants have demonstrated continuous operation for more than a year on 31 occasions so far. Out of these, three reactors KGS-1, RAPS-3 and RAPS-5 have operated continuously for more than two years.
NPCIL presently operates twenty-two reactors with a capacity of 6780 MW and has eight reactors with a capacity of 6200 MW under construction. Work has also been initiated on twelve more reactors (9000 MW) accorded administrative approval and financial sanction by the Government.
