With innovative AI-driven power electronics and seamless solar integration, these solutions empower homes, businesses, and utilities to accelerate their transition toward a greener, carbon-free future.
PURE aims to cater to energy needs across residential, commercial, and grid segments with its PuREPower range.
With the growing movement towards Net Zero, cleaning up the energy space has assumed importance in the march towards decarbonising electricity. This is something easier said than done, and will take huge efforts at many levels, one of which was demonstrated by Hyderabad-based PURE, a leader in electric mobility and clean energy innovation, at an impressive launch ceremony at Hyderabad recently. PURE is the acronym for Power Using Renewable Energy, which is what the company stands for, in the mobility as well as energy space.
A startup incubated at i-TIC, Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH), PURE launched a range of EV scooters and motorcycles in 2018 and has since ramped up capacity to manufacture 40,000 units per annum. The company, promoted by Dr Nishanth Dongari, Founder and MD, and Mr Rohit Vadera, Co-Founder and CEO, has now forayed into energy storage to facilitate the clean energy transition in the country. PuREPower is a ground breaking line of energy storage products aimed at accelerating India’s energy transition. Available in two versions at the moment – PuREPower Home and PuREPower Commercial – the third one, PuREPower Grid will join the line up shortly, all three designed to address the critical need for reliable, scalable, and sustainable energy storage products, critical for the country’s progresses towards the decarbonisation and renewable energy goals.
“PuREPower is more than an energy storage product – it’s a commitment to India’s decarbonisation goals. By empowering homes, businesses, and the grid with cutting-edge battery technology and power-electronics, PURE is enabling the country to reduce its carbon footprint,” said Dr Nishanth Dongari during the launch ceremony.
Mr Rohit Vadera, Co-Founder and CEO of PURE, said: “The PuREPower range aligns with the government’s vision to promote renewable energy adoption and Energy Storage integration. From enabling homeowners to store solar power efficiently to helping businesses transition to sustainable operations, PuREPower is shaping a smarter and greener energy landscape.”
The event was attended by Chief Guest, Dr V K Saraswat, Permanent Member NITI Aayog. A distinguished scientist with vast experience in defence research, Dr Saraswat is also the former Secretary, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Also present on the occasion was Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker Mr Eugene Huang, Chairman, Creative Sensor Inc (CSI) and Techno Image Systems (TIS), Taiwan, one of the technology partners.
The product and range
The PuREPower product range combines the battery tech, power-electronics, electric power system, solar control and AI into a single product, reinforcing its commitment to design and Make in India. With the renewable energy capacity of India set to exceed 500 GW by 2030, ESS products like PuREPower will be integral to balancing energy supply and demand, stabilising grids, and reducing dependency on fossil fuels.
PuREPower Home is a state-of-the-art energy storage product tailored to meet the growing energy needs of modern homes, offering the best-in-class consumer experience by powering high-surge loads like ACs, Geysers, heavy-duty kitchen appliances, lift, etc. Designed for seamless integration with rooftop solar, PuREPower Home is available in 3kVA, 5kVA, and 15kVA capacities to ensure uninterrupted power 24/7, and comes in attractive colours with the modern world aesthetics and compact design. With maintenance-free and app-enabled monitoring, and enhanced life cycle of 10+ years through predictive/cloud AI, it provides Indian households with the reliable energy product that reduces electricity costs and contributes to a greener future.
PuREPower Commercial, available in capacities ranging from 25kVA to 100kVA, is targeted at businesses aiming to enhance operational efficiency while embracing sustainability. By optimising renewable energy utilisation and reducing dependency on diesel generators, this product caters to diverse applications, including offices, healthcare facilities, telecom towers, and retail complexes. Equipped with advanced electronics, PuREPower Commercial enables peak load balancing, supports critical systems like centralised ACs, elevators and EV charging infrastructure, and provides modular scalability to grow alongside business needs.
PuREPower Grid, set for launch in CY 2026, is PURE’s ambitious step toward addressing India’s large-scale energy challenges. As India’s grid infrastructure adapts to the rapid expansion of solar and wind energy, PuREPower Grid will play a pivotal role in stabilising the grid, managing peak loads, and enhancing renewable energy integration. Offered in compact container based products with up-to 4 MWh, PuREPower Grid is designed for applications in state utilities, industrial consumers, micro-grids, and solar/wind parks. By enabling frequency regulation, reducing transmission losses, and ensuring grid reliability, PuREPower Grid aligns with India’s decarbonisation targets and enhances its energy infrastructure for a sustainable future.
State-of-the-art technology
Hidden behind the sleek exteriors of PuREPower is a hightech powerplay of advanced technologies to ensure high efficiency, safety and above all, affordability. In doing so, the company has deployed learnings from its EV technology, things like AI-driven power electronics, smart load balancing, and IoT-enabled energy management that are at the core of these energy storage solutions. To Dr Nishanth Dongari, the journey from the EV space to energy storage solutions was the logical next step. In doing so, PURE has also localised all manufacturing with the sole exception of battery cells, which are imported, but that apart, battery manufacturing, thermal management, and cloud-based predictive analytics are all localised. Collaborations have played an important role in all this, especially in material science and electrothermal chemistry. Apart from R&D collaboration with IITH, there is another with ARCI – a renowned powder metallurgy lab – for developing advanced anode, cathode, and electrolyte materials, along with supercapacitor integration, enabling superior performance and surge load handling.
On the cost front, Dr Nishanth explained how a product like the PuREPower 15kVA was not simply available in India, and even in Europe, China or the US it would cost 3 to 4 times more that what they are now making available in India – at a significantly more affordable Rs 1.75 lakh! “I mean what challenge we saw in India was like you know the price of an EV is certainly higher than the petrol engine car, but in energy storage that problem is not there, because whatever the existing technology is there across all the segments we are able to track it and the design and make it here, achieving price reductions of 30-60 per cent across various segments, by leveraging local manufacturing. When it comes to grid storage, achieving a cost of USD 110-120 per kWh is a major milestone, thanks to Rohit’s (co-founder) extensive experience in large-scale renewable energy installations,” he said.
However it is the safety aspect that is a top priority and matter of pride for PURE, as over the past two years, the company has transformed safety standards in the EV industry, maintaining a zero-incident record. “The latest PuREPower solutions incorporate innovations like micro-capillary-based liquid cooling, rack-level nano-phase change materials, and multi-tier fire safety protections,” Dr Nishanth concluded.
PURE plans to expand PuREPower Home & Commercial reach with over 300 dealers & distributors across India in the next 18 months. Bookings open from 1st April 2025 for PuREPower Home. Deliveries start from 30th April 2025.
